The Tactical Ballistic Helmet-II (TBH-II) for Military Special Operations by GENTEX is designed to provide increased ballistic shell protection with less head borne weight than the original PASGT helmet.
The helmet offers enhanced situational awareness and interface with other worn equipment with its shell profile and shape. The helmet also offers improved stability and comfort using the latest generation of suspension and retention systems.
The performance of the helmet is based on the USMC Lightweight Helmet and the U.S. Army Advanced Combat Helmet. In addition, ballistic testing is conducted with a 9 mm projectile to NIJ-0106.01 at 1400 feet per second velocity.
The TBH-II is endorsed by the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) and the U.S. Army has approved the helmet's X Harness retention design for airborne operations.
The helmet was fielded by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. and International Special Operation Forces, various police departments and other state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Innovative features of the helmet include the following:
- Suspension systems that can include a headband crown mesh design similar to that used in the new U.S. Marine helmet or a variable pad system that allows the user to adjust pad thickness for uniform compression for maximum comfort and stability. The pad suspension also includes patented split crown pads to accommodate the headband style headsets, eliminating pressures created by the pad pressing against the headband.
- Retention assembly that incorporates 4-point attachment to the helmet shell to provide maximum stability. It offers a removable suede covered split chinstrap and leather nape pad with foam cushioning. The various buckles and slides allow for length adjustments both front and rear to prevent rotation and to accommodate gas masks, headsets or other items worn with the helmet.
A version of the helmet referred to as the TBH-II HC is the same as the basic TBH-II except the sides are trimmed approx 1 inch higher to allow for interface with headsets that protrude outward on the bottom.
Helmet shells in four sizes are available either predrilled or not drilled for NVGs. A variety of colors including black, green 383, olive drab, desert tan and foliage green are available.
